Health insurance open enrollment is coming. Are you ready?

Just as you insure your home and vehicle against potential problems and damages, health insurance provides some protection against giant bills when you or someone in your family has a medical emergency.

The open enrollment period in Arizona is coming very soon – and there are a few things you might want to know as you compare health insurance plans.

  • More than 100 individual plans will be available for you to choose from.
  • Ten insurance companies will offer plans through the state’s insurance marketplace.
  • There are several options for business owners who offer health insurance to their employees. Those options include: traditional small business health coverage, or a defined contribution plan that reimburses employees for individual health insurance coverage.
  • Arizona’s health insurance marketplace is not state-run. The federal government runs the marketplace for Arizona residents and offers tax credits to make healthcare more affordable for Arizona’s people.
  • There are multiple tiers of health insurance coverage, which are classified based on the amount that you can expect your insurance company to pay and what you can expect to pay.  With the bronze plan, a health insurer typically pays 60%; with the platiunum plan, the health insurer pays about 90%. There is also the catastrophic coverage option for people who are under 30 years of age or have a hardship exemption, according to Healthcare.gov.

A trained and knowledgeable insurance agent can help you explore your options, comparing the different types of plans, the amounts of coverage and how individuals can use that health insurance. There are differences in the restrictions, rules and coverages in each type of health plan, and

At Summit Insurance, we offer the three different types of health insurance plans available to Arizona residents: consumer- directed, fee for service or managed care.
